Sydney Wargames Club
If you like history and gaming, you may like "Wargames" with miniatures.
Wargames are like chess but without the grid, with a bit of luck and hundreds or even thousands of figures on the table. Players may recreate famous battles from history or fight 'what if' scenarios. Wargaming covers all periods of human history, from the earliest conflicts between men, through ancient Sumer, Egypt, Greece and Rome, up through the middle ages, renaissance, age of reason, Napoleon, WW1, WW2 and modern conflicts. If history isn't your thing, players also explore fantasy worlds like Lord of the Rings, Star Wars and other similar themes.
If you want to see what this is all about, come to one of our regular club meetings. We meet monthly and we welcome people to join in. Check our about page for our venue and dates.
You could refight Waterloo. Could Napoleon have defeated Wellington?
What if the Prussians were delayed a few hours more?
There are a lot of unknowns when going into battle that we, with 20-20 hindsight, can see where the outcome was decided, but in the moment, things are different and decisions made that could change history. Wargames put you in the moment, and the outcome is not so certain.
2025 News:
1807 Campaign update from the moderator/umpire:
The 1806/7 battles of Luckenwalde and Petkus have been written up by Andrew, the organizer and umpire for this campaign of the "War of the Fourth Coalition". You can read the progress from his perspective on the Throne and Alter blog.
He is, of course, only telling part of the story, for fear of giving valuable campaign information away to one side or the other. This campaign has been going for 2 years now and all the players are keenly aware of how important the bits of information Andrew leaves out actually are! I, for one, am looking forward to reading a more detailed account of the missing details when the campaign comes to an end (in Paris, with a Coalition victory, of course!).
2025 AGM
The AGM for 2025 was held at our February meeting.
Michael B remains our President, and Robert H and Michael W on the committee.
Membership fees and casual meeting fees remains the same. Members are encouraged to pay those into the club's bank account at your earliest convenience. People considering joining will continue to have their first couple of meetings without a fee, so please feel welcome to come along and see what you would otherwise be missing.
We also saw some good games played out over the day, with WW2, Sudan, Vikings and Napoleonics featuring. Over all, not a bad turnout.
Thank you all to those who made it to this meeting.
Steampunk fan?
A bit of cross club promotion here, but if you are interested in Steampunk gaming, you may want to reach out to Errien Teunisse at the Exiles wargaming club in Marrickville.
See our links page for the Exiles' contact details, or click here: Exiles

Peter Nathan Toy Soldiers
We had a visit from Sven (from "Peter Nathan Toy Soldiers"). He has generously offered a 10% discount for our members and has told us of his intention to expand his offerings/stock in his Sydney store. Also, since he is not too far from our club venue, he can arrange delivery to our meetings. Check your emails for his contact details, or contact a commitee member. He will be dropping off some business cards soon and we can keep those handy at our upcoming meetings.
The details of his offer are:
"... if you are able to call in your orders 10-14 day prior to the monthly meeting, I can organize (pending availability with supplier) to deliver your order, and offer 10% discount on items ordered.
We can handle it with cash on delivery, or, I can charge your credit card on the Friday before the meeting.
If I can’t make that Sunday, we’ll organize pick-up or drop-off at an alternate location.
Please note that my website only show items I have in stock at the shop, you are not limited by that, anything (except Battlefront) you find on the War and Peace Games website and catalogue, I should be able to get for you."
